Tuco's Taqueria in Galway is one of the first places I tried when I was first diagnosed Coeliac and it made the thought of the whole change of lifestyle a little bit less daunting.
If you haven't already guessed by the name, Tuco's is an authentic Mexican Restaurant located on 6 Abbeygate Street Upper in Galway City Centre (Just off shop street).
What first enticed me in was a sign outside stating that they are Paeleo, Vegan but most importantly Coeliac friendly. It is so rare to find such a sign outside any restaurant so I decided to go in.
The interior is so well decorated and what I imagine a rustic Mexican restaurant should look like. It's like stepping into a scene from a western. I had only been to one Mexican restaurant before when I visited Los Angeles and thought I would never eat anything that good again because of it's proximity to Mexico, but god was I wrong.
I went for the Tuco's Tinga Corn Taco which can be seen in the picture to the right. This was a soft shelled corn tortilla with jack cheese, Irish beef slow roasted for 5 hours with pinto beans sour cream and coriander. Even thinking about it now is making me drool. The meat was so tender it just fell
apart it your mouth and just left you craving more.
There were loads more options, chicken, pork, steak and veggie you could chose to have a burrito, enchilada, box and there was a huge variety of sides that can all be found on their menu here http://www.tuco.ie/el-menu/ .
I cannot recommend this place enough even if just for a light bite as there is a takeaway option available too. If you are ever visiting Galway this place is definitely a must and so centrally located it is the perfect stop in the middle of a day of exploring.
